"I'm only going to train 3 times this week," I said to my husband on the Monday of the week of my sprint-distance triathlon in Orlando. We were trying to figure out our crazy schedules for the week, juggling kids, work, physical therapy appointments and babysitters.
Wait. What was that?
I stopped and pondered the impact of what I had just said. Then I laughed out loud. "I'm ONLY going to train THREE TIMES??"
Five months ago, that wouldn't have been something I'd said. That's because I was doing zero training. Zip. Nada. Nothing. Lots of thinking and guilty feelings about "exercising", but no real output.
So thanks, [Heart Zones Coaching]. Here I am, announcing I am "only" going to train three times in my taper week!! And sort of wishing it was more.
What a difference my Heart Zones training program has made in my fitness level, knowledge, body shape and size, my social life, and, most importantly, my self-confidence and self-esteem. I've made new friends, dropped 20 lbs, and re-built some muscles that haven't been seen in years. I feel good. I feel happy. I'm not even nervous about the race. [The coaches] have been inspirational in their efforts to bring the group I'm in right to where we need to be. I know people forget to say "thank you," so I'm saying it now. Thank you. Your mission is great. Your support so critical to the thousands of women who will run this year and whose lives (and health) are forever impacted.

Yesterday, July 27, 2008 was my very first triathlon and one of the greatest events I've participated in.
I just wanted to tell you how much I really enjoyed working with Coach Shannon Porges and their workout leaders in Metro-South. It was an incredible experience I will treasure for a lifetime. Shannon and her crew brought so much fun to working out. I've always loved working out and being a part of a group, since I'm an avid cyclist, but I never knew how much fun it really could be. Shannon's spirit and zest for fun & fitness radiates into all the athletes she trains.
The team we had was just awesome, everyone was so supportive of each other and even today, the day after the triathlon, the spirit and buzz is still alive via emails. In such a short time we bonded and became a part of each others lives. I'm sure our friendships will carry on into the future and I wanted to personally thank you for putting together such a great organization that promotes fitness, camaraderie and friendship.
I'm honored to be a graduate of one of Heart Zones [Coaching] Programs. I look forward to next year and entering into the [advanced] program.
